From 1979 to 1987, I (Wesley Johnston) published 10 issues of the Butson Family Newsletter. Though a number of contributions to the newsletters came in, the cost of printing and mailing it finally became too great, and I was US$500 in the red. So I had to give it up. I have received a number of inquiries about the newsletter over the years, and so I am making the 10 issues available on the web.

This site is definitely under construction and will progress slowly. I am afraid it is a distant second priority behind the Dad's War historical work I am doing -- as well as other realities of life that significantly limit me, such as the chronic fatigue from which I have suffered since 1996. So I will be slowly scanning in the back issues and posting them here. Some day, I want to do an index of all the names and locations in these issues, since they cover Butsons and their descendants over several centuries and all around the world.

So what is here so far is what is here so far. It will all be here some day. I have kept the original text but modified the format, better to fit the web. I have included only the articles with genealogical and historical content. Thus articles on subscription policy and dstirbution of the newsletter and donations are omitted.

I very much want to hear from you (see bottom of page) if you have ANY information about my great great great grandfather Henry Butson (born at St. Blazey, Cornwall 25 March 1831; came to Canada about 1840; married Sarah ?(do not know maiden name)? about 1852). I do not know where he died, nor what happened to his wife Sarah, who must have died by 1858. They had two daughters, Emma (my ancestor) and Mary Jane, and I am also interested in any information about Mary Jane who died unwed in North Dakota in 1899, at about age 43.
