On January 24, 1940, John Lewis Parsons at the home of his son, Wm.C.Parsons, passed from this physical life to that realm of the Spirit where we see no longer "thro" a glass darkly-but face to face.

Mr Parsons was a son of the late Wm. and Jane (Wilcox) Parsons of Darlington, Township and formerly of Devonshire and Cornwall, England. He had three brothers, William, Sampson, and Henry, and five sisters, Mrs R. Haggith (Susanna), Mrs. Jas. Nichols (Agnes), Mrs Jacob Cobble-Dick (Sarah), Mrs W.R. Cole (Corsena), and Mrs James Riches (Polly).

Mr Parsons received only a meagre public school education and while he followed farming as an occupation with a physical energy rarely surpassed, he also pursued a stready course in self education which resulted, with his stated religious convictions in a determined effort to benefit his surroundings first in his home, then in the church, of which he was a member from young manhood, through the choir, church boards and Sunday School teaching and by a keen interest in agriculture, municipal and political intereste, in the localities in which he lived.

Mr Parsons was born in 1857. In 1881, he married Mary Ann Hoskin, eldest daughter of John and Johanna (Woodley) Hoskin, who predeceased him on September 25th, 1939.

Mr and Mrs Parsons had two sons, Wm. Cedric at home and John Henry, Richmound Saskatchewan, and five daughters, Mrs E.G. Rivett (Olive), Mrs J.F. Anderson (Pearl), Mrs Lorne Puckrin (Coretta), Mrs Cecil Pascoe (Lily) and Mrs Bertram Dundas (Annie).

The funeral service was conducted by Rev. W.C. Smith of Ebenezer United Church, who very fittingly likened the deceased to a sheaf of ripened corn. The hymns used were "O Could I Speak the Matchless Words", "Just for Today" and "Abide With Me". The bearers were neighbours and fellow church members, Messrs R.E.Osborne, F.A.Crago, Leo Courtice, K.E.Courtice, N.Down and C.Penfound. Interment was in Bowmanvill Cemetary.

Mr Parsons is survived by his family and on esister, Mrs J.Ritches, Cambray, Ontario.
