WESLEY JOHNSTON NOTES ON SPANTEKOW CHURCH RECORDS

On June 30, 2011, I visited the Evangelical Church Archives of Pommerania, located in Greifswald, Germany. I photographed the Archives' summary page on Spantekow records, the labels of the three boxes that contain the Spantekow church records, and about 170 images of portions of the record pages, covering most of the images (but not all) for 1680-1771. These are NOT complete: there are only a few pre-1709 pages included, and there are some pages from 1709-1771 that are not included.

I am working on organizing these records, which will include these phases:

  1. Make good images of the archives' Spantekow records inventory sheet and of the labels of the three Spantekow microfilm reels.
  2. Make a PDF file of all of the 181 images.
  3. Make a spreadsheet worksheet to identify all the images and to identify groups of images of a single record page (e.g. top, middle, bottom)
  4. Process the images to put them back into a single positive cropped and aligned image for each page [This is the step I am working on now. So far only 1680 is done, but nothing is posted yet.]
  5. Post the cleaned up images and a spreadsheet worksheet for them

Perhaps then, I will systematically go through the images and record all the names, but they are very hard to read in some cases, so that that is quite a daunting task.
