John and Mary Tremellen Family of St. Blazey 1820's

Research note in the St. Blazey Families Project by Wesley Johnston (last updated 24 May 2012)

There were apparently two John and Mary Tremellen/Tremelling  families in Cornwall in the 1820's, one at Crowan and one at St. Blazey. The Cornwall Family History Society Research Database (CFHS DB) shows baptisms at both places in 1824 and 1830 and other baptisms that clearly show that these were two separate families.

The Crowan family, which is always spelled Tremelling in the six baptisms, married at Crowan. There is no marriage record in the CFHS DB for the St. Blazey family. There is also a Mary Ann Tremellen baptism 26 Aug 1821 in Callington that seems to be the Mary Anne Tremelling buried 8 Jan 1832 in St. Blazey. Callington is right by the border with Devon, and it seems most likely that the St. Blazey family originated in Devon.

The family lost all of their children in the period 1828-1833 (I have identified 7 children). They appear to be the John and Mary who appear with no children in the 1841 and 1851 censuses of Tywardreath.
