ESTEEMED BARAGA RESIDENT SUMMONED -  John Vaughan, 78 Passes Sunday Evening After Short Illness - It is with deep regret that The Sentinal reports the death of John Vaughan, an honored and respected resident of Baraga.  Mr. Vaughan passed away Sunday evening at 6:15 o"clock at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. Edw. Clements, with whom he made his home for a number of years.  He had been in ill health the last four weeks and his death resulted from a heart attack.  A Large number of relatives and friends regret his demise.

Mr. Vaughan was born in Eastern Canada, Oct. 15, 1857, and shortly after his birth accompanied his parents to the States.  During the past 40 years he had made his home in Baraga.  He came to Baraga in 1895 from L'Anse, where he resided a year.  He was employed as filer in the Nester plant until 1910, when he left for Canada, where he was employed in a similar capacity for about 10 years.

In recent years he spent practically every summer here, leaving in the fall to visit relatives in Chicago, lower Michighan and other places during the winter.

Surviving are four sons, Thomas of Ontonagon, John C., of Trout Creek, Luke and Dr. E. P. Vaughan of Chicago; three daughters, Mrs. Wallace Finch of South Pekin, Ill, Sister Agnes Frances of Jamestown, N.D., and Mrs. J. Edw. Clements of Baraga and 21 grandchildren.

The funeral was attended by a large number Tuesday morning in St. Ann's Church.  Requiem High Mass was sung by Rev. Fr. Dousenberg, as celebrant, Rev. Fr. Cletus of Chassel as subdeacon.  Burial was in Baraga cemetery.

 The active pallbearers were six grandsons of the deceased: Bernard Vaughan, Donald Vaughan, J. C. Vaughan Jr., Tim Clements, Thomas Clements and John Clements.

The honorary pallbearers were L. G. Hillyer, J. J. Byers, John Cochran, Joseph J. O'Connor, Thomas Barry and Matt Getsen.
