Three 1812-ish William Woolcocks of St Blazey & St Austell

Research note for the St Blazey Families Project by Wesley Johnston (last updated 11 Jun 2012)

This is a research note to attempt to sort out the three William Woolcocks who were born about the same time (c 1812) and recorded in the records of St Blazy (two of them) and neighboring St Austell.

William who married Elizabeth Trevithick 24 Dec 1833 at St Blazey - son emgirated to Wisconsin

At this time, I am carrying him as the William baptized 31 Jan 1813 at St Blazey and born 15 Dec 1812 at St Blazey Highway, son of William Woolcock and Anne Bennett. I am NOT certain of this.

The William who married Elizabeth has thus far been elusive in the English 1851 census. Their son William (b 1836 St Blazey) married in Wisconsin in 1856 (which record shows his parents as William and Elizabeth - see FamilySearch for abstract). So the family may have emigrated by 1851.

William who married Grace and lived at St Blazey

The 1851 census of St Blazey (and other years) lists this family [http://search.ancestry.com/Browse/view.aspx?dbid=8860&path=Cornwall.St+Blazey.ALL.4e.45]. Some trees carry this William as the one who was the son of William and Anne (Bennett) Woolcock.

William who married Grace and lived at St Austell and died in mine explosion in Pennysylvania

This William has to be kept separate from the other one who married a Grace. An apparently well-researched tree has him at http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/24065365/person/1466987479

There is a great deal more that needs to be done to sort these out definitively. One problem with the Wisconsin family is that they seem to have been determined to elude the census takers. But I cannot pursue this at this time. So I am simply noting here what I have found so that it can be picked up later and researched properly.
