Richard Luke was baptized at St. Blazey, Cornwall, 15 Jun 1817, son of William Luke and Mary Trembeth.

Richard's brother William, baptized at St. Blazey definitely came to the east half of Whitby Township in what would later be Ontario, Canada. He was there by 13 Jan 1839, when he married Harriet Lewis. He was still there in the 1851/2 census, where the agricultural census shows him with 100 acres on Concession 5, Lot 7.

The same 1851/2 agricultural census shows Richard Luke with 135 acres spread across Lots 8 & 9 of Concession 5 -- and thus just west of and probably adjacent to William Luke's acres. A bit further west an Edmund Luke had 60 acres on Lot 11 of Concession 5. And a few miles west of that, a Richard Luke Jr. had acres on Lot 15 of Concession 5.

So was the Richard Luke on Lots 8 & 9 of Concession 5, William's brother? It seems likely, but at this point I have not researched it sufficiently to be certain.

And was this Richard Luke the same Richard Luke who shows up (born England with wife and children born Canada) in the 1870 census of San Francisco? The wife and children of the Richard Luke in the 1851/2 census of Whitby do not seem to fit with those in the 1870 census of San Francisco.

This is a temporary research note that I will change as I find more solid information.
