10 Aug 1792 Death Record

The 10 Nov 1792 death of Jan WOLF at Hresice 5 at age 75 is the last line on page 198 of Posdzen 05. The image is at

This would place his birth at about 1717.

Pozden Baptimsal Records

Hresice was in the parish of Pozden from 1718 onwards. Thus the 1718 baptisms are in included in Pozden 01 on SOA Praha's website. Here are the earliest four Jan WOLF baptisms in those records. All four are considered in my research note "Which Jan Wolf married Dorota Klein in 1748?" The only one of these who is even somewhat close to 1717 is the one in 1720.

Pre-1718 Baptisms and Marriages

So where are the baptisms of children born at Hresice prior to 1718, specifically those just before 1718?

SOA Praha lists only one reister: Msec 02, which was originally labeled register B and has births 1708-1747 (SOA dates but actually go to 1777), marriages 1708-1776 and deaths 1708-1752. The first image of this register is at

    https://ebadatelna.soapraha.cz/d/8934/1

The baptisms begin at

    https://ebadatelna.soapraha.cz/d/8934/4

and actually go all the way to 1777, despite the SOA Praha labeling that shows only 1747:

    https://ebadatelna.soapraha.cz/d/8934/268

The marriages begin at

    https://ebadatelna.soapraha.cz/d/8934/270

The deaths begin at

    https://ebadatelna.soapraha.cz/d/8934/444

Both the birth and marriage records are indexed in separate volumes.

Here are the starting pages of the indexes for W-surnames for the start of register B:

    W-INDEX-BAPTISMS - https://ebadatelna.soapraha.cz/d/8951/98

    W-INDEX-MARRIAGES - https://ebadatelna.soapraha.cz/d/8952/66

There are three "gotchas" with the page numbers.

The first "gotcha" is that register B has two page numbering systems.

The page numbers in the indexes refer to the page numbers at the top center of the right-hand page on the online images, which start at the beginning of the baptisms and continue through the marriages and deaths.

The other system, which has lined-out numbers at the top outer corners of every page numbered every page in the three sections (baptisms, marriages, deaths), starting each section with new numbering.

So when you find a page number in the index, you have to find that page number in the top center of the right hand page.

And this is where you may run into the second "gotcha". The page number in the index refers to the physical page with the number on the top center of the front of the page and includes all those records on the front of the page and on the back of the page.

In addition, there is the third "gotcha". As in all manually-done indexes, some records are simply listed on the next or previous page number in the index, versus the page number that is correct for them.

Marriage Example

Near the bottom right of the marriage index page https://ebadatelna.soapraha.cz/d/8952/66 it shows Joannes WOLF on page 292 of register B.

The page numbered 292 is image https://ebadatelna.soapraha.cz/d/8934/291. And the very first marriage on the top of page 292 does reference a Joannes WOLF from Kornhaus (the German name for Msecke Zehrovice). He is listed at the very end, possibly in the capacity as "presentor" -- not a witness (the witnesses/testes are listed before him). I do not undertand his capacity, but clearly he was not the bridegroom in the marriage. So the index reference would not be to this marriage, since the index lists only brides and grooms.

It turns out that this is a case of the third "gotcha". The marriage of Joannes WOLF is actually the last one on the page numbered 293 (image at https://ebadatelna.soapraha.cz/d/8934/292). He is the son of Bartholomew WOLF from Kornhaus and married 20 Oct 1720 with Rosina the daughter of Pavel (spelled in Latin Pauli) VRABEC (spelled in German WRABECZ) from Prerubnice.

Baptism Example

There are very few WOLF references in the index. Near the bottom of the index page https://ebadatelna.soapraha.cz/d/8951/98 is Josephus WOLF on page 53 of register B.

He is the second baptism on the back side of page 53 (image https://ebadatelna.soapraha.cz/d/8934/55 ), born 1 Mar 1718 at Srbec (which is very close to Hresice) and baptized at Msec 3 Mar 1718, son of Karel (Latin Carli in the record) WOLF and Rosina.
