Who were the parents of Edmund Byrnes?

Research Note by Wesley Johnston, begun 5 Oct 2017, last updated 5 Oct 2017

Background

Edmund BYRNES married Johanna BUTLER at Killeentierna in County Down, Ireland, 5 Feb 1837. Based on later records, he was born about 1819 and she about 1820. Unfortunately, the Killeentierna baptisms apparently survive only in a later transcription register which has no baptismal records in the period 25 Dec 1809 to 23 Jul 1823, inclusive. (See https://www.ancestry.com/interactive/61039/04272_02_0048?pid=38106 for this gap.) Thus Edmund's baptism, if it was at Killeentierna, is lost.

Potentially Related Batpisms

Howvever, there is a 7 Feb 1824 baptism of Daniel BYRNE son of Patrick BYRNE and Catherine GALVIN, domicile Ballygree, sponsors Florence McCARTHY and Nora CONNOR. And Edmund and Johanna named children -- although not the first -- Patrick (1846) and Catherine (c 1850). (Similarly, there was the 5 Jan 1825 baptism of James BUTLER son of William BUTLER and Catherine KEARNEY, domicile Clonnacurrig, sponsors James LOMBARD and Margt LOMBARD. So William and Catherine may be the parents of Johanna BUTLER.)

Tentative Conclusion

Since there is no baptism for Edmund BYRNES and since he named two of his children with the same names as the parents of Daniel BYRNE, I am carrying the parents of Daniel BYRNE as also those of Edmund -- father Patrick BYRNE and mother Catherine GALVIN. If solid evidence later refutes or confirms this, I will add the information to this research note and adjust my database, if indicated by the evidence.
