The following was sent by Elma (Buehler) Lehmann to her cousin Walter Johnston's son Wesley in 1987. I have added some square-bracketed notations and reformatted the text for easier reading.

Of course my parents were William & Marie (Staack) Buehler. My brother was Emil and sisters were Marie and Mildred.

I was born on October 31, 1918 at home on 3504 S. Rockwell St. Chicago. Baptized on November 27, 1918 at St. John's Lutheran Church at 36th & Wood St. Pastor was J. L. Pflug. My Godparents were Uncle John Staack and my father's sister Elsie (Buehler) Kavanaugh. Also I was confirmed on March 20, 1932 at Hope Ev. Lutheran Church at 64th & Washtenaw Ave. Pastor John A. Leimer.

I went to the following schools: John G. Burroughs at 3542 S. Washtenaw, Nathaniel Green School 3537 S. Paulina St., Henry Wadsworth Longfellow 1901 W. 35th St. The Longfellow school was torn down because it was too old. When I was going to Donald Morrill School at 6011 S. Rockwell St. and was ready to graduate they made us to two more years to Harper Junior High School at 6520 S. Wood St. and then was transferred to Charles H. Henderson Jr. High School at 5650 S. Wolcott and again was ready to graduate they made us go another two again to Lindbloom High School at 6130 S. Wolcott Ave. and then finally got a four year high school diploma on June 11, 1937. The principal was Butler Laughlin.

I also took dancing lessions and also my cousins Martha Johnston and Katherine Vandre Hoffman. We went to Marjorie Bessert Studio located at 62nd & Washtenaw.

Places I worked were my father's place of business at 6022 S. Western Ave. and Parisian Novelty Co at 35th & Westerd Ave. Chicago. After we came to live in Round Lake, I got a job with Kleinschmidt in Deerfield and later was known as SCM Kleinschmidt. Your grandfather and grandmother Walter & Henrietta (Staack) Johnston, your great Aunt Viola (Staack) Abraham, second cousins Elaine (Abraham) Anderson and Elma (Buehler) Lehmann and her son Charles Lehmann worked there too. I worked there for eighteen years as a Senior Typist in the Production Dept.

Witness to my marriage and best man was my brother Emil Buehler.

I was widowed in 1983.
