How are Charles Consoer and Herman Konsoer related?

Research note by Wesley Johnston, last updated 4 June 2013

Charles Consoer's father Johann/John is unattached in my tree. I cannot connect him to any of the other Chicago Consoer/Konsoer families.

However, in the 1920 US Census of Blue Island, Charles Consoer is living with his wife and her mother, and her mother is renting to Herman Konsoer (born 21 Oct 1879 at Beseritz to Joachim/Daniel and Friederike (Michael) Konsoer). So there does seem to have been a relationship between these two Consoer/Konsoer families. But I do not yet know what it is.

The Beseritz parish registers are on Ancestry.com (browsable but not indexed, so that they do not show up as any suggested sources to look at ... you have to go find them under the Mecklenburg-Strelitz records in Ancestry's catalogue). But they are only for about 1850-1890, so that earlier events are not included in the images. Since Johann came to Chicago about 1862 and Charles was born in Blue Island in 1865, it may be that Johann had a prior wife and remarried in Chicago. But so far I have not found any records for Johann in the Beseritz records that Ancestry has.
